On-water recording and simple
debrief for dinghy sailing
Record your sailing. Compare with others. Improve next time.
Dinghy Coach helps sailors understand what really happened on the water. Record your sailing, replay what happened, compare boats from the same session, and learn what to change next time.
How Dinghy Coach Works
Record your sailing
Take an old Android phone on the water and record your session automatically.
Review what actually happened
Replay tracks in the debrief tool and compare boats.
Improve next time
Use what you learned to sail the next session better.
Three ways to use Dinghy Coach
Dinghy Coach works whether you're sailing alone, sailing with others, or running a coached session.
Sail by yourself
Record a session and see what actually happened on the water. Replay your track, check tack and gybe quality in the stats, and import GPX from other devices too.
Sail with others
Load tracks from multiple boats and talk through the session together. Compare lines, replay key moments, and agree one thing to change next time.
Coach or instruct
Run synchronised starts, talk to sailors over push-to-talk, and set wind and marks from one coach screen. Coach mode is optional and adds tools for coached sessions.
What it is
Record a session on your phone, then open it in a browser-based debrief at app.dinghy.coach. Replay what happened and compare boats from the same session on one shared timeline.
Recording works fully offline and uploads when mobile data or Wi-Fi is next available. No account required, and no installation on the debrief device.
Use a shared timeline with a defined race start to compare boats directly, with optional Portsmouth Yardstick (PY) correction.
Why it's useful
- See where you gained or lost instead of relying on memory
- Compare boats from the same session under the same conditions
- Turn "that felt quicker" into something visible and discussable
Who it's for
- Sailors who want a clearer picture of what happened on the water
- Coaches who want calmer, more objective debriefs
- Clubs and training groups who want a simple way to review sessions
What you need
- Android phone per boat (second-hand handsets work well)
- Waterproof case and secure mounting
- Tablet or laptop for the debrief — no app install needed
- For coached sessions: a local Wi-Fi hotspot to connect phones to the coach
